Shalamayne Update
Going with a leather wrap for Shalamayne's handle. There actually is leather wrapped around the handle under all that string. I'm giving it about 24 hours to dry then I'll remove the string.

Varian Wrynn - Shoulder Armor (Before & After)
Here is the near complete lion pauldron next to a papercraft model. Yes, the finished one started as nothing more than folded paper.

Painting the hilt of Shalamayne
My first attempt for painting the hilt was to use a base coat of yellow, then dry brush various shades of gold metallic paint. But that didn't work at all.
Metallic paint doesn't give good coverage, so it ended up a splotchy mess.
I redid the base coat with gold spray paint. It looks pretty good and hopefully I'll be able to add shadows and highlights using acrylic paint over it.

Varian Wrynn Bracers - Talons
It took me a while to come up with a plan on how to create the talons for Varian Wrynn's bracers. Really, the talons are what kept me from building the bracers before now. What I ended up doing was cutting a piece of pink insulation foam and sanding that into the general shape. The talons on the bracers are built from shaped insulation foam, then covered with Worbla.
On the left us my first attempt (without a foam core) which really didn't work. It looks like a tube with a point on the end. :)

Missing Files Found!
Years ago I published the "plans" I created for my Hyperion Gunblade. After a few server moves, the links to these files "broke". Now I have the files available again.
Sorry it took so long, please let me know if you have any trouble with the pdfs.

Varian Cosplay - Belt Update 3
Here you can see how the pieces of the belt are going to come together. The image on the left is taken from the in-game model, the right are the pieces I'm building.
I think this is the first picture I've posted showing some of the fabric pieces of this costume.
Varian Wrynn Cosplay - Belt Update 2
I assembled the other rigid pieces of Varian's belt using Worbla, craft foam, and cast resin half-spheres. Priming next...

Varian Wrynn Cosplay - Belt Buckle
More progress was made on Varian's belt over the weekend. Once the priming is done I'll do some work on some of the seams that look a little sloppy right now.

Cosplay Who?
I am slowly gathering together the things I'll need to do a decent cosplay of Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor from Season 12 of the classic Doctor Who TV series. Actually, the costume will be a bit of a hybrid of Seasons 12 and 13, I really want something fun to wear that I can put on easily by myself.
The Varian Wrynn costume is going to take at least one, possibly two assistants to put on.

Varian Wrynn Cosplay - Leg Armor Update
The finished right greave for Varian Wrynn. It is constructed of Wonderflex, Craft Foam and the resin cast lion head.
Now it is time to prime it. I like to use Gesso to prepare the Wonderflex surface. Not only does paint stick very well, the the Gesso also easily fills in the minor surface flaws.

Varian Wrynn Cosplay - Knee Cover
After filling in the hollow part of the lush cast with expanding foam, I glued the resin lion head to some cardstock. Then I used craft foam to build up the outside edge of what would become the knee plate of the leg armor.
Next, I'll cover the foam with wonderflex so it can be attached to the wonderflex greave.

Lion Head Resin Casting
And this is the other side of my first slush cast pull. Looks a lot better, huh? Still needs some finishing work, but it is usable This is much lighter than the solid casting I made originally. I think I need to add some expanding foam in the back to support the thinner portions.

Varian Wrynn Cosplay - Wig!
I created a base for my Varian Wrynn wig. It is a little heavy in the back with the ponytail, so the stand needed to be able to support it.
